Robotics team earns awards at state
March 01, 2022
The three robotics teams who make up the Hyannis Sandbots 4-H Club traveled to the State Fairgrounds in Grand Island on Saturday, February 26 to compete in the State Championship First Lego League Competition. 44 robotics teams from all over Nebraska competed and Hyannis made a great showing, bringing home two of the sixteen trophies given out! The Sandhills Sandbots team received the Rising All-Star Award, which is given to the team that the judges notice and expect great things from in the future! The Blue Sandbots received third place in the Core Values Award category, which is given to teams that display extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit, knows they can accomplish more together than they could as individuals, and show respect at all times! Congratulations to all the members of the Hyannis Sandbots 4-H Club for earning a trip to State, and to the Gizmo Gang team from Omaha who won multiple awards including State Champion and will advance to the National First Lego League competition in Houston.
The First Lego League is so much more than just building with Legos; the kids learn mechanical design, coding, public speaking, problem-solving, teamwork, and so many other skills. The club would like to thank the community for their financial support, Hyannis Area Schools for providing practice space, and the parents and volunteers. You helped make this season a success!
